Presentation is formal and structured.
Presentation is less interactive than conversation.
Presentation style balances between conversation style and academic style. The propensity depends on what kind of speech you want to give. The academic style usually connects with specific characteristics like precision, accuracy, objectivity, explicitness, responsibility. And the conversation style often appears to be less on these features.
There are mainly two types of presentations: informative presentation and persuasive presentation. Their aims vary.
- Make it clear that what you want to do with the presentation. To inform, to persuade, to entertain or to instruct. Try to think of different measures to achieve your goal.
- Before the presentation, make a research on your audience, including psychological analysis, demographic analysis(race, ethnicity, cultural background, beliefs, etc.), and situational analysis(presentation situation).
- A good topic doesn’t have to be too related to the knowledge you owned before. It can be one you are interested in, or something that you are unfamiliar with and you want to make a deep look at it. But if you are not familiar with the topic before, make sure you have made an enough preparation.
- Be careful about the location you choose to make a presentation. Try to enable everyone to focus on you.
